Bestvital Colostrum

What is Colostrum?

Colostrum, the pre-milk secreted from the milk glands of mothers, is produced throughout the first 24 to 72 hours after parturition (birth). This colostrum is very important. Most mammalian babies would simply die without colostrum because, not only does it contain vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats, but, more especially, certain bio-active molecules. These molecules, immunoglobulins, are essential for the immune system and the defences of such young bodies. These ingredients do not occur in such high concentrations in any other natural product.

Colostrum from cows

It is not only the immunoglobulins that make colostrum so valuable, but also its immune factors. The cow colostrum used in our Bestvital products contains 4 times as many of these immune factors as does human colostrum. In addition, it also contains glycoproteins and protease inhibitors. These are very effective in protecting the essential parts of the digestive system in the alimentary tracts of both animals and humans.

The great importance of colostrum to cattle is explained by the fact that, because calves are born with practically none of its protective substances in place, they obtain them by suckling during their first few hours of life.

Colostrum Quality

Naturally, we only use colostrum that is surplus to requirements - the calf comes first! Fortunately for us cows produce more of 'Nature's Gift' than their calves need. However, the acquisition of colostrum for we humans is very restricted, especially for those who, like us, demand the highest standards. We only use colostrum from milkings taken during the first 12 hours, and free of pesticides, synthetic hormones and antibiotics. During production we of course avoid the use of preservatives and artificial additives.
